Can a state regulate commerce while Congress is?

Posted on April 13th, 2010 by admin in commerce | 1 Comment »

I have to read a primary source document for US history class. The whole thing talks about some debate about if it’s constitutional for states to regulate commerce with other states and countries while Congress is. I’ve read the whole thing three times and cannot find a straight answer. Help?

Go to this link and read the interpretation.

Look here under enumerated powers third bullet.

This is also a great article addressing this issue. By the way this is what the Civil War was really about.
