What do you think of this President Taft quote?

Posted on October 20th, 2009 by admin in taft | 8 Comments »

"The day is not far distant when three Stars & Stripes at three equidistant points will mark our territory: one at the North Pole, another at the Panama Canal and the third at the South Pole. The whole hemisphere will be ours in fact as, by virtue of our superiority of race, it already is ours morally."

I think it is proof of Americas imperialism, something which is still going on today and which is why a lot of people hate the U.S.
Brick: latin americans had complex cities and lived in harmony with nature instead of trying to change nature, while we now do the latter. So in a sense, we are now the more uncivilized people.
cvq: Jealousy? Thats exactly the same excuse that bush used to justify going into iraq. "they are jealous of our freedom" That is major BS.
http://www.mindfully.org/Reform/2003/US-Interventions-1823.html

First, although I agree we are imperialistic, the past NEVER proves the present.

It is our arrogance that offends; such as the comment that Latin America couldn’t possibly get electricity without our intervention. Most 3rd world countries are 3rd world because of our med ling and worse in their affairs.

It is hard for the rest of the world to look at our abundance and see that we do nothing with it , while whining all the way to the bank. That’s not jealousy, its a total astonishment as to the level of selfishness displayed by those who have everything and not just Americans, but the elite of every nation. America bashing makes no sense as we are not the evil of the world, just one of many.

The people on the bottom are all on the same side. As long as the top has us competeing for crumbs and fighting each other, they get to keep the wealth and the underpaid work force.

Illegals aren’t taking anything from us but we are paying for the lifestyles of the rich and famous every time we go to work or buy something.

Yes, the legacy of Tafft continues and as you can see from some of the reponses so many people still don’t get it.

What are two reasons Roosevelt decided to run against Taft for the presidency?

What are two reasons Roosevelt decided to run against Taft for the presidency? Which do you think is true? Explain in detail!

This sounds like a homework question. I can only give one reason. Roosevelt thought Taft had betrayed his progressive principles. Taft was not left-wing enough for Roosevelt.

What are the causes and effects William Howard Taft Presidency?

Posted on October 14th, 2009 by admin in taft | 3 Comments »

the republicans were very popular. teddy roosevelt was one, and he made great progress in the progressive era, like national parks and the pure food and drug act. Americans thought Taft would do the same, and roosevelt thought so too, but it was not to be.
Something did come from his presidency- dollar diplomacy, which confirmed American economic presence in Latin America.
roosevelt disapproved of taft, and created the Progressive party, which split the entire Republican party. This big split let the Democratic nominee win, and his name was Woodrow Wilson, who would bring the country into World War 1.

Can a non union actor be represented by a SAG agency in order to get work on a SAG film to have Taft-Hartley?

Posted on October 14th, 2009 by admin in taft | 1 Comment »

I am a non union actor attempting to get into some SAG work. Will a SAG franchised agency represent a non union actor in order to help them achieve membership to SAG?

Being SAG Franchised and being a SAG actor are two different things.

SAG Franchised is a title that can be bought for $3000 and 3 industry recommendations. Since 2002, SAG Franchised does not have the clout that it used to. Many of the TOP agencies are NOT SAG Franchised.

Just because you’re not SAG does not mean that you have no chance with an agent be it SAG Franchised or not.

To get an agent, you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and training from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least.

Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won’t see you unless you’re SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Taft Hertley-ing an actor through film/tv is difficult.

Commercial agents, HOWEVER, are more lenient about that for commercials are one of the easiest ways of being Taft-Hartleyed. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading.

You can get an agent multiple ways. Here are a few common ways:
-Mail in an unsealed manilla envelope with a CONCISE coverletter and headshot with the resume stapled on the back. If you have a demoreel include that too.
-Attend a showcase and impress them. By showcase I do not mean scammy conventions like IMTA, IPOP, Proscout, or Best New Talent. I mean legit ones like at Actor Connection, Reel pros, Network Studios, etc.
-Get a referral from a friend who is with the agency that you’re interested in

DON’T
-Email them unless they tell you to. IT’S UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Call unless they tell you to. ALSO UNPROFESSIONAL!
-Walk in and ask for a meeting. UNPROFESSIONAL THREE!
-Sign with them if they ask for upfront money, make you take new photos with THEIR photographer, or take THEIR classes. Agent’s ONLY make money when you do. Agents usually make 10% on film/tv and commercials and 20% on commercial print.
