Roosevelt was flamboyant, gregarious, fearless, much admired and extremely popular. Taft was reserved, quiet, uncomfortable with the politicking aspect of his job, bookish, obese and drab.

Although Teddy was the dynamic one, Taft managed to accomplish more during his Presidency by means of the soft sale. Because of Roosevelt’s powerful personality and the belief that the Progressive agenda was of his own making, he’s gone down in history as being one of our greatest Presidents. Because of Taft’s insecurities, he ’s seen as a disappointment and eclipsed by the shadow of his predecessor.

Mainly by his own words. He didn’t want to be president, hated being president, and couldn’t wait to leave the White House. He knew that his training and background suited him better to be a judge than a politician. He later became a justice on the Supreme Court, a position he coveted for many years.

Some quotes by Taft:
"I do not know much about politics, but I am trying to do the best I can with this administration until the time shall come for me to turn it over to somebody else."

"Politics, when I am in it, makes me sick. "

"Presidents come and go, but the Supreme Court goes on forever. "

"Don’t sit up nights thinking about making me President for that will never come and I have no ambition in that direction. Any party which would nominate me would make a great mistake."

I know hes super huge, had a wife and got a bigger tub but what did he really do? To contribute to the United Sates?

WHile you can site the 16th & 17th amendment with Taft and his "Dollar Diplomacy", Taft big contribution was to Split the Republican Party when Theodore Roosevelt ran for President again in 1912. The vote was split, but Taft won the primary election forcing Roosevelt to create the Bull Moose party, thus splitting the Republican vote allowing the worthless Woodrow Wilson into the White house.

Taft did however go on to Become the Chief Justice of The Supreme Court. Ruling on case law that would direct the course of events for the next century and then some.
