Which university offers a better Masters of Commerce programme?

Posted on November 10th, 2009 by admin in commerce | 1 Comment »

Hi all,

I’m Singaporean and my undergrad degree was in pol sci and have decided to do a masters in commerce, more specifically, marketing, so that I can consider a career switch.

Ive been accepted to uni of sydney and uni of new south wales, and have looked through the course outlines. However, I want to know which course has good job prospects/opportunities and which uni is more renowned for studying marketing?

Or alternatively, is Deakin in Melb or uni of Melb better options? Would be grateful for some answers.

Thanks!
Uni of Sydney or UNSW?

How has the way people shop changed in terms of convenience due to e-commerce?
Help?

It has become much more easier and convenient to shop online as opposed to offline down the high street.
Many online e-commerce business even offer discounts, special offers and free delivery to get you to shop online. (It saves the company having to employ more people to work in their shops).

How do you get into advertising? Do you have to go into business/commerce?

Posted on October 26th, 2009 by admin in commerce | 1 Comment »

I’m in first year university and I’m feeling pretty lost about what I want to go into and if the classes I’m taking are right. I was thinking of advertising as a possibility but I have no clue how to even get into it. Do you need to go into business/commerce? Or can you get an undergrad degree in, for example, history or english? Is there a certain program you would try to get into for your undergrad?

It all really depends on what you want to do in advertising. There’s a little bit of everything in advertising. Do you want to be on the creative side? sales? media buying? Most people, when they want to get into advertising, are looking to get into the creative side.

If that’s the case then I would not recommend getting a business degree. Business is very structured with a lot of guidelines, whereas the creative side of advertising is kind of all over the place, spontaneous and innovative. If you walk into an ad agency looking for a creative job, and you have a business degree, chances are you will not get the job. They might think you’re too boring and can’t think outside the box.

For creative, agencies are looking for more "general" degrees, such as communication. Being able to communicate your point effectively is going to give you a head start. And then maybe follow that up with a minor in marketing, sociology and/or art. There are even colleges out there that have advertising majors! And, if you are getting into creative, you must follow up your degree with a good portfolio school so you have something to show when you walk in for an interview. Also, never turn down an internship opportunity, even if its unpaid, because that’s how you break into this business.

I hope that helps, good luck with your education and career!

What is the difference between these terms : Commerce, Finance, Business?

I have frequently come across these words while researching for tertiary studies. Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Finance… you get the drift.
But I fail to see what is the difference between the nature of their studies, and their areas of influence in the society.
Can someone enlighten me on this?

I was wandering what the Secretary of commerce in the presidential administration actually does?

In other words what is commerce?

I think you mean "wondering".

"The historic mission of the Department is "to foster, promote, and develop the foreign and domestic commerce" of the United States. This has evolved, as a result of legislative and administrative additions, to encompass broadly the responsibility to foster, serve, and promote the Nation’s economic development and technological advancement."
