Was PT Barnum a prophet ……………..?
Consumer Reports said on Monday that it could not recommend the iPhone 4 because of lingering reception problems.
The testing firm also challenged Apple’s official explanation that explained issues with the Phone 4’s signal-strength as due to software that "mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength."
When reports of problems with Apple’s new device first surfaced, Consumer Reports at first informally gave the all-clear sign. But after its engineers put the iPhone 4 through a battery of tests, Consumer Reports said that was unwilling to recommend the unit:
"…We reached this conclusion after testing all three of our iPhone 4s (purchased at three separate retailers in the New York area) in the controlled environment of CU’s radio frequency (RF) isolation chamber. In this room, which is impervious to outside radio signals, our test engineers connected the phones to our base-station emulator, a device that simulates carrier cell towers (see video: IPhone 4 Design Defect Confirmed). We also tested several other AT&T phones the same way, including the iPhone 3G S and the Palm Pre. None of those phones had the signal-loss problems of the iPhone 4.
Our findings call into question the recent claim by Apple that the iPhone 4’s signal-strength issues were largely an optical illusion caused by faulty software that "mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength."
The tests also indicate that AT&T’s network might not be the primary suspect in the iPhone 4’s much-reported signal woes.
It shows the fallacy of saying, "In Pod i trust". (This IS the R&S site, you know?)

Recommend simple software to create an online searchable database.?
The public will be able to search for specific members of a Chamber of Commerce by category or by name.
I know how to setup PHP myAdmin, but Dreamweaver is too complex for me. I’ve heard of File Maker and PHP Magic. Any suggestions please?
Well, you could use the e107 file managment system however you would need to make a custom page for each entry and would need a index page Linking to each. However, It would be searchable.
What are my chances of getting into Brown or U-Penn?
Hi,
I am a senior in high school, just recently I took the ACTs in June and scored a 29 (10 writing), I thought i really needed to improve this score, and went to take them again in October and then i scored a 28 composite (writing not yet known), this makes little sense to me how I could go down in a score, but that is besides the point. I have also taken 3 SAT II test, in Math I – 640, in Math II – 660, in Biology – 770. I have just taken the SATs for the first time ( my mothers fault on that one), and I do not yet know the score.
In more information, I have or will have taken 11 AP classes, 1 sophomore, 5 Junior, 5 Senior, and a College Course through Pitt University in Computer Programming that is weighted as an AP course. My entire senior schedule consist of AP/ College Course, and the standard curriculum that every student is required to take ( Home Ec./ Gym) . My Quarterly Weighted GPA is a 4.85, I do not know what my current cumulative GPA for weighted or unweighted is at the moment ( school is having computer problems switching to a knew software), but from last year it was a 4.178 weighted . My AP scores are 5, 5 , 4, 4 ,4, 4, with 5 more grades to come in July of this year. I have also taken all the AP courses my school will allow me to take ( they don’t offer anymore, hence the reason I moved onto a College Course at Pitt), I am first in my class out of 283, a position I am trailing the second in class.
For extra-curricular, In 9th grade, I participated in two school plays, and a musical, I also ran Cross Country-Junior Varsity, and Track – Junior Varsity, I also did Senior Marching Band ( Drum Line). I did Forensics ( speaking competitions) in which I have first, second and 6th place awards. I was also a member of the school Student Council, and organized a school pep rally by myself. I was also the Treasurer of my county 4-H Club, which was and is the bulk of my community service. I also participated in my Church Orchestra, Church Hand-bell Choir, Church Youth Group ( I was on the council), and I did Spirit Band ( Junior High Band) on the side.
In tenth grade, I took on the only AP Class that tenth graders at my school are allowed to take, which was AP U.S. History, which came with an extremely accelerated special English Course( required to take AP U.S. History. I also participated in Senior High Marching Band, Cross Country-Varsity, Track and Field-Varsity, Mock Trial, Science Olympiad, School Orchestra, I also had skipped a year of German over the summer so I was placed in German IV this year. And I began a self-taught course in French. I participated again, in Church Orchestra, Church Hand-bell, and Church Youth (they abolished the council this year ). I was also a member of the Schools S.G.A. (student government association) in which I was elected to be the 10th Grade Representative on the Executive Chamber. I again participated in 4-H as the Vice-President of my club. That year 4 members of my club, including myself( i was the youngest at 14), competed at the state level in a forestry competition, and proceeded to move on to the National level, coming in 4th place.
My 11th grade year, I dropped many of my extra-curricular due to a massive increase in course rigor. I took 5 AP classes ( Stats, Calc I ( three years ahead the normal student of our school), Biology, Euro, and Computer Sciences) . I also moved to German V the highest level of any language one can go to at my school and reserved for seniors ( I was an exception). In the realm of extra-curricular, I partook in Senior High Marching Band, Wind Ensemble ( the elite band of our school, requires tryouts), Orchestra, Mock Trial (attorney), Forensics, Science Olympiad ( Second Place medal in ecology ),Church Youth, and S.G.A.. I was also nominated to hold a position on a Committee of the School Board to determine the new School Outlook Program for the next decade, which I held for the duration of the year. I was elected to the Presidency of the 4-H club, I was also elected 4-H Ambassador for the County ( one of the highest positions one can hold at the county level). I participated in English Festival for the first time and Scholastic Scrimmage (TV Game Show) and Quiz Bowl. I ended this year by trying out and being named Head/ Executive Drum Major ( tryouts required, I had two assistant Drum Majors ) for the Senior High Marching Band.
This year now, as I have stated, I am taking 5 more AP classes, with another College Course. The APs are Gov, Calc II, Chemistry, Physics B, and English and Composition, the college course as previously stated is 2-3 year ( im not sure ) level at Pitt University. For extra-curricular, I am engaged in the Senior High Marching Band ( Head/Exec. Drum Major ), Mock Trial (attorney ), I am considering starting to run again ( i ended up quitting in 11 grade due to asthma problems ). I also participate in my Church Youth, I will be starting back with my
this should end with, " I will start back with my Church Orchestra soon, I have considered running again, I will also be participating in most of the activities that I did in previous years again. I have little job experience, only recreational soccer referee in 9th,10th and 11th grade.
In my free time I enjoy perspective drawing, painting, and composing for the organ ( which I play ). I am also writing two novels for my friends ( half of one is in french, the other is my memoirs ). I hope to have these finished before I apply, but I don’t know if i will have the time I’m about 100 pages into each. So what are the honest chances of me getting into Brown or U-Penn or any Ivy League for Business and English for that matter.
wow dude, Ur school freakin rocks…
i am sooo heavily restrained and limited by my school and what it offers…
there is noo science olympiad or any competition,,
We onlyl have calc 1 and physics A…–it freakin sucks!!!!
so right now im just jealous of you and the great opporutnities that you have had,,i hope u are aware of that..
but, i think u have an average chance,,if you nearly ace your SAT then you will have a great chance!! good luck and be greatful for all the things u were able to do that many many other schools cant do
COLLEGE DROUPOUTS…….. . STAR IT IF U LIKE?
College Drop Outs:
——————————–
Are college dropouts more successful than people with good education? It would seem so if you consider that many billionaires are people who dumped college. However, what this hides is the fact that although millions quit studies before completing them, very few of them go on to become rich.
What the list of the super-rich dropouts signifies is that in business, a top degree is not as important as having the right aptitude, attitude, determination and vision.
Here are some dropouts who went on to become billionaires:
1. Bill Gates & William Henry Gates III
(1955-), along with Paul Allen, co-founded Microsoft Corporation, the world’s largest software maker. Bill Gates, the wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of
$480 crores (Rs 211,200 crore!),
is probably the best-known college dropout.
Gates attended an exclusive prep school in Seattle, went on to study at Harvard University, then dropped out to pursue software development. As students in the mid-70s, he and Paul Allen wrote the original Altair BASIC interpreter for the Altair 8800, the first commercially successful PC. In 1975, Micro-Soft – later Microsoft Corporation – was born. Three decades on, Gates has been Number One on the Forbes 400 for over a dozen years.
2. Lawrence Joseph Ellison (1944-)
, co-founder and CEO of Oracle Corporation, founded his company in 1977 with a sum of $2,000. Once a school dropout, he is now, according to
Forbes , one of the richest people in America with a net worth of around $184 crores. The figure also makes him the ninth richest in the world.
3. Dhirubhai Ambani—-(1932-2002)
was born into the family of a schoolteacher. It was a family of modest means. When he turned 16, Dhirubhai moved to Aden, working first as a gas-station attendant, then as a clerk in an oil company.
He returned to India at 26, starting a business with a meagre capital of $375. By the time of his demise, his company – Reliance Industries Ltd – had grown to become an empire, with an estimated annual turnover of $120 crores!
Dhirubhai was, in his lifetime, conferred the
Indian Entrepreneur of the 20th Century Award
by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. A
Times of India
poll in the year 2000 also voted him one of the biggest creators of wealth in this century.
4. Steve Jobs
Steven Paul Jobs (1955-) and Apple Computer are names that have long gone together.
Born in the United States to an unknown Egyptian-Arab father, Jobs was adopted soon after birth. After graduating high school, he enrolled in Reed College, dropping out after one semester.
In 1976, 21-year-old Jobs and 26-year old Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computer Co. in the family garage. Jobs revolutionised the industry by popularising the concept of home computers.
By 1984, the Macintosh was introduced. He had an influential role in the building of the World-Wide Web, and also happens to be Chairman and CEO of Pixar Animation Studios.

MORAL OF THE STORY:-

I have a new PC with Vista. What is the best order in which to install my other software?
Main progs I use are: Kaspersky Internet Security, Canon Scanner, Samsung Printer, Office Prof 2007, Chambers Dictionary, Word Perfect, Paint Shop Pro, Jot+ Notes, Write it Now, Life Journal 2, Mind Manager Pro 6, First Class, Lyceum and Mozilla Firfefox.
Make sure you have your security installed first of all. The rest of your programes will probably need drivers, no problem , Vista tells you were to look for downloads.
Free voice recording software that provides similar effects as Cool Edit Pro?
Cool Edit Pro had cool effects you could do to your voice such as 50’s style and other cool echo chamber effects.
Audacity has nothing.
Here’s a link for heap of plug in effects for Audacity.
Worth a try if you don’t have Cool Edit.
http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?group_id=6235&filename=LADSPA_plugins-win-0.4.15.exe
Wait a short time and the download link opens.
Portal Chamber – Invisible Spider Track 2
Found by me, but wouldn’t have been possible without swjm’s initial find.
This track doesn’t actually lead anywhere, but is a pretty good indicator that this room at some point was meant to be connected by the Spider Ball. However, only the magnetic portion of the tracks were implemented; there’s no way to see or touch these tracks otherwise.
Given the fact that the tracks are hollow and invisible, it’s pretty clear this was scrapped early on and the magnetic part of the tracks were just mostly forgotten about.
These two movies would be together, but I have no editing software and making one *quick* continuous movie wasn’t going to happen; the majority of the movie time would’ve been just me using a secret world to skip going back to Dark Aether.
